Drako Rogare
Fire & BloodDrako Rogare was a son of Lysandro Rogare who inherited ships and a share in the family’s wealth. When Lysaro’s control of the Rogare Bank ended in financial ruin, Drako escaped to Volantis; later, when the Triarchs offered him his captured brother, he declined to buy him. His brief appearances trace the family’s collapse through inheritance, flight, and a final refusal that left Lysaro to be returned to Lys.
Inheritance and Family Position
Lysandro’s children could not inherit his public offices, but his estate was divided among them. His palace went to Lysara, his ships to Drako, his pillow house to Fredo, and his library to Marra. The children also shared in the wealth represented by the Rogare Bank; Lysandro’s bastards received smaller shares than his trueborn children. Effective control of the bank, however, belonged to Lysaro, the eldest son. Drako thus inherited a distinct material asset and a stake in the family fortune, but not control of the institution whose failure would undo the family.
Flight from the Collapse
Lysaro’s scheme to finance a war by diverting bank funds helped provoke a run on the Rogare Bank. As depositors demanded their money, its reserves were exhausted, and Lysaro fled Lys with a hundred Unsullied, leaving his family behind. Drako escaped separately to Volantis aboard one of his galleys. The broader flight of the family’s ships was largely unsuccessful: only a handful of Drako’s trading galleys had time to change course, while nine ships were lost for every one saved, along with their cargoes and the family’s wharves and storehouses.
Refusal and the Family’s Ruin
Lysaro was eventually captured at Volon Therys while waiting to cross the Rhoyne. The Triarchs sent him downriver to Volantis and offered him to Drako for a price. Drako declined and suggested that the Volantenes sell Lysaro back to Lys instead. The account gives no explanation for his decision. It does establish that Drako would not pay to reclaim his brother, and Lysaro was returned to Lys in chains aboard a Volantene slave ship. Drako’s own escape therefore stands in sharp contrast to Lysaro’s capture and return: the inherited ships provided a way out of the immediate collapse, but did not restore the family’s position or prevent its members from being scattered and ruined.
